The Commissioner of Customs at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Alhagie K. Mbye, is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, where he is holding high-level discussions with officials from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on upgrading GRA’s existing ASYCUDA system to the new generation digital version.
This upgrade aims to make customs operations in The Gambia more efficient, secure, and sustainable, in line with international standards. The new ASYCUDA platform offers several improvements, including faster processing, cloud-based infrastructure, enhanced data security, and paperless trade procedures that simplify customs clearance.
During the meeting, the UNCTAD team assured GRA of their full support in terms of capacity-building programmes to strengthen the skills of customs officers and ensure a smooth transition to the new system.
This development forms part of GRA’s broader modernization drive to improve trade facilitation, promote transparency, and create a more responsive digital customs environment for all stakeholders.
